TikTok Murderer

I understand that I’m not much older than most but being that I was born in the year ‘98 some things really do bother me from this era even though it is my generation. For example social media, it has taken over our lives along with technology in general. You’re probably reading this through a smart phone or desktop computer BUT for this case I would like to talk about a specific app that is trending everywhere on every platform... that would be TickTock. I am not addicted like some users who stay up till 2 AM every night watching Tik Tok‘s although, I will admit that I do have the app and I watch it occasionally just for informational purposes considering it does teach you a lot more than you would expect from a entertainment platform.

This case in particular took my interest because it had to do with wanting “clout” also known as social media fame. For some reason this generation is so caught up in wanting to go viral. In order to receive this type of attention through the media they will go to extreme measures. It saddens me to talk about this because this crime and incident could’ve been avoided had it been taken care of properly by authorities but unfortunately that was not the outcome.

To sum it up this narcissistic little boy who was 17 at the time had a really nice Corvette which he flaunted and recorded himself all the time revving his engine and basically disturbing the peace all hours of the night in his neighborhood, purposely trying to upset and receive reactions from neighbors in hopes to go viral by posting his videos on Tik Tok. He genuinely got a kick out of that.

The Durhams was the family who lived right in front of Zachary Latham. Previously the cops were involved multiple times, unfortunately they failed to control this little boy’s behavior and his inappropriate disrespectful comments towards the Durham family. The boy even recorded and posted videos of the officer while being addressed about his behavior. The Durham family was verbally abused including William Durham’s wife after being called inappropriate racial slurs. The harassment accumulated over 2 years until the couple finally had enough. After their son was intentionally targeted and nearly got ran over by the boy while riding his bicycle through town, this was the straw that broke the camels back. This led William into approaching and taking matters into his own hands since authorities failed to put a stop to it.

Mr. Durham finally decided enough was enough, he took the initiative to confront the boy on his property. Immediately Zachary went inside to grab his taser and butcher knife the moment Durham stepped onto his property for confrontation.This resulted in Mr. Durham getting stabbed by Zachary in the rib which eventually led to his death. Zacharys wife caught the whole confrontation and murder on video with the intent to post on Tik Tok with yet another attempt to go “viral”.

The irony in this story is that this little narcissistic boy who consistently taunted and provoked this couple with racial slurs actually served in the national guard. The national guard is supposed to serve and protect society during any disasters or time of need.

Congrats Zachary Latham, you finally got your 15 minutes of fame!
